Visitor Safety Briefing

Welcome to Mamaku Point Conservation Reserve.

Your visit is at your own risk, and you are responsible for your safety and wellbeing while exploring the area. To protect both you and our environment, please review the following essential information:

Hazards on the Reserve:

  • Traps and Bait Stations: These are placed throughout the reserve to manage invasive species. For your safety, please avoid handling or interfering with any traps or bait stations.

  • Cliffs and Uneven Terrain: Cliffs and steep areas are present throughout the reserve, including near the camp. Avoid cliff edges, particularly during wet or windy conditions, as surfaces may be slippery or unstable.

Visitor Safety Guidelines:

  • Be Prepared: Ensure you are physically prepared and equipped for your chosen activities. Suitable footwear, clothing, and supplies are essential.

  • Notify Before Your Walk: Inform the reserve team or your group leader of your plans, including your route and expected return time. This ensures quick assistance in the event of an emergency.

  • Stay on Designated Tracks: Please remain on marked paths to protect the environment and ensure your safety. Off-track areas can be hazardous and sensitive to disturbance.

Emergency Procedures:

  • Emergency Contact: In an emergency, dial 111 and provide your exact location within the reserve.

  • Safety Equipment: We recommend carrying a mobile phone, personal locator beacon, whistle, and a basic first-aid kit.

Thank you for following these safety measures and helping us protect both visitors and the natural environment of Mamaku Point.

We hope you have a safe and enjoyable visit!
